Parallel hatching/cross hatching

With parallel hatching, the strokes run in the same direction. Line length and distance vary the optical result. Overlays and densifications affect tonal value and mixes. Cross hatching overlays hatches at different angles. Density, colour and colour intensity of the cross hatches influence a variety of mixing tones and shades.

GradientsGradients

Gradients

If you place two colour surfaces next to each other and mix them with a wet brush from the middle, flowing colour gradients and brilliant mixed colours are created.

glazeglaze

glaze

Glazes add depth to an image layer by layer. Each layer of paint must dry before applying the next colour. The layers of paint allow the colours underneath to shine through and blend visually with them. For very fine, light glazes with many layers, it is recommended to dissolve the colour on a separate paper.

Wet to wetWet to wet

Wet to wet

Every watercolour painter knows and loves this painting technique. First, the paper is

clear water well moistened. When drawing on the wet paper, the colour pigments dissolve immediately and spread painterly in the damp surface.
