The Faber-Castell comic range

Hero stories have always had conjuncture. Whether villain or heroe, comics in which superheroes with superhuman forces fight evil will still attract young and old to this day. On spectacular conventions around the globe, thousands of like-minded people celebrate with artists and stars of the industry.

More and more avid followers of the scene want to create their own superheroes – with pen and paper. For them Faber-Castell has now developed a creative concept for analogue trend. It includes five comic character sets, which are also part of a Faber-Castell comic story, created in collaboration with Peruvian comic illustrator Alvaro Feliu.

The main role in this comic is the „Famazings“, a four-head superhero family that has exceptional abilities. Each member of the superhero family and its characteristic super power is devoted to one of Faber-Castell’s new comic character sets.

The Famazings are a four-member superhero family that has exceptional abilities. It is due to a volcanic eruption on the island of Ignivo, where strange substances were transported from the earth core into the atmosphere – with engraving consequences for the body and mind of people: They developed super powers at once. The ability to have super powers can be passed down to the next generation.

The islanders founded a secret superhero organisation called Ignivo, equal to the name of the island where the Famazings are also members. The aim of the organisation is to help the government fight against evil with its super powers and save or protect other people. The organisation coordinates members‘ missions and contacts those who develop their superpowers.

Ben Murray Father of the Superhero Family (41 years): Alias Sgt Robustus helps people in need with its superhuman power and increased endurance. He is a master in all martial arts and sports and uses his trained protector instinct above all for his family, because he is the first priority for him.

The comic 3D set includes Goldfaber colour and various Pitt Artist Pen ink pens to father Ben a.k.a. Sgt. Robustus, which is a truly impressive appearance with its steered, muscular stature.

Abbey Murray Mother of the Superhero Family (37 years): Alias Zinergy has very special abilities. In addition to numerous combat skills, she can read and heal thoughts. The family is also the first priority for them. With great empathy and understanding she wants to not only protect her own children, but also use her super powers to save other people.

As expressive as the interplay of the forces of mother Abbey aka Zinergy, when she reads thoughts, the six colourful Pitt Artist Pen pens in comic colouring set.

Rachel Murray, Daughter of the Superhero Family (14 years): She lives up to her superhero name Shiftress: she is a design transformer. In addition to her increased sense of hearing and smell, she can transform into other beings. As a somewhat thick headed teenager, she cannot yet fully control her emotions and thus puts her in danger easily.

The comic shading set is dedicated to daughter Rachel. The fascinating striped pattern of a tiger skin is achieved with Pitt Artist Pens in four different shades of grey with line width B. The high-tech tip can bring flat shadows as well as fine and spot accents to the paper.

Dylan Murray Superhero Family Son (16 years): Get wings, which are only visible if you want to fly and invisible to normal people: this is the special super power of Dylan a.k.a. Airling. It is super fast, quiet and a good spy. As a big brother, he cares for his little sister and protects her by putting his wings around her.

The comic black set is a tribute to son Dylan who can fly. Four Pitt Artist Pens in black with different tips provide the ideal hand tool to trace the fine contours, lines and details of airlings wings.

Geometric shapes.

Geometric shapes are really useful tools for all your drawing projects. Because almost all objects and figures you want to draw you can build on squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. In the perspective view, you work with cuboids, pyramids and balls. Practice drawing these basic shapes to get a sense of dimension and space. Then mentally convert objects into basic forms and start your drawing according to this scheme.

Shades.

Light and shade give objects and figures three-dimensionality and depth. With the type and setting of the shadow, you can greatly influence the mood in a scene. You can create shadows with a parallel hatch, a cross hatch or by shaming. Each material has its own surface texture that reflects light accordingly. Shiny, smooth surfaces reflect light very strongly so that hard contrasts and strong reflections. Softer shadows and less contrasts appear on matte surfaces that reflect light less strongly.

Proportions

Your comic heroes only look harmonious if the proportions of their body are well matched. Stick to the scheme shown here and create expressive characters through various accessories.

Storytelling.

Your comic story must be brought into a matching layout. With so-called panels, which can vary in size, shape and arrangement, you can create your scenes. The action generally moves from left to right and from top to bottom. This Z rule ensures that the reader zigzag follows the story.
